Capitol Curiosities

is a celebration of the weird, the wonderful, and the whimsical. Of all the people, places, and things that stop you in your tracks, make us think, make you smile, or make me wonder.

Growing up as a queer womanish person in late-90s Ohio, I felt excluded from “The Conversation.” I always felt as if I had something to contribute, but I haven’t always felt as if I had a receptive place to dump it all — until I got laid off from my dream job and made my own.

Welcome to Capitol Curiosities, where expectations are low, hate is not hot, shame is lame, dust is a protective layer, and asking questions and for help is encouraged. Why? I’m glad you asked! Because life is too short not to be silly sometimes and surround yourself with objects and people that make you smile always.

Initially, this space will be a shop where I sell lightly-used and bigly-loved treasures from the good ‘ole days (subjective!) at reasonable prices (objective, according to me!) because I need to afford boring things like health insurance and new teeth.

Eventually, I envision this as a home for every way a story can be told, with the goal of helping others feel included, supported, and celebrated. Hopefully, one day Capitol Curiosities will also be an actual space, a gathering place with classes, tours, exhibitions, artist residencies, or anything else I dream up between now and then.

Until then, if you want to visit me at my one-bedroom museum/home, pick up an order in D.C., or drop off a donation, let me know and we’ll work something out.
